The simulation of electrical networks plays an important role in the powertrain development process, especially considering their interconnections. AVL’s multi-physics solution allows you to analyze entire network systems offering an integrated 3D to 1D workflow.

One of the solution’s highlights is the battery management system, which controls the proper operation of batteries and has to be considered during a simulation. It takes the desired current, battery temperature and SoC into account to limit the charge and discharge current, to avoid a critical temperature rise above the permissible boundaries. When exceeding the limits, the system applies a current limitation algorithm to continuously reduce the actual demand back to the continuous operating level. In case of SoC limit violation, the user can choose if the simulation may continue with alerts, or if it has to be stopped with a failure message.
