AVL Opened Second Technical Center in China
In its final stage of expansion, the technical center, situated in the north of China, will accommodate as many as 25 engine, transmission, powertrain and hybrid test beds. Already on completion of the first construction stage, involving an investment volume amounting to EUR 20 million, a vehicle chassis dyno, a powertrain test bed and other test systems are scheduled to go into operation. The 12,000 square meter AVL site is located in Tianjin's Technological Economic Development Area (TEDA).
AVL's ties with China go back decades
AVL initially established business contacts with China many years ago. As early as in 1926, Professor Hans List, the founder of AVL, accepted a call to Tongji State University in Wusong, China. Around 35 years ago, AVL significantly stepped up its involvement in China. In 1987, the first AVL office opened in Beijing. An office in Shanghai (1995) and a joint venture in Xiamen (1999) followed. Since the opening of the first technical center in Shanghai in 2003, AVL has been increasingly offering professional development services in the Chinese market. In total, AVL employs around 500 people in China, who work in the business areas of Powertrain Systems Development, Simulation and Test Systems.
AVL is the world's largest independent company for development, simulation and testing technology of powertrains (hybrid, combustion engines, transmission, electric drive, batteries and software) for passenger cars, trucks and large engines. As of 2014 AVL had more than 7.470 employees worldwide and annual sales of EUR 1.15 billion.
