The pace of change that the automotive industry has seen in recent years is unprecedented. Almost every new vehicle is electrified to a certain degree, ranging from mild hybrids to battery and fuel-cell electric vehicles. This significantly increases the number of components and systems that need to be integrated and balanced while ensuring the maximum efficiency of the powertrain. These targets can only be met using state-of-the art simulation models of components, as well as systems.

Some components, like battery or power electronics, must operate within a certain temperature range. This is why thermal management is so essential in the development process. Due to the often complex geometry of these components, they are best analyzed in computationally demanding 3D simulations. These are very time-consuming, especially considering the transient nature of most of the necessary investigations. Consequently, an equivalent, even more efficient 0D model must be set up to allow engineers to perform more simulations in the same time. Such a model is suitable to be integrated into the vehicle model to study its impact on the overall vehicle efficiency.

Join Marko Kolaric, AVL’s thermal management simulation expert, in this 60-minute webinar to find out more about this automated solution that will allow you to transition from CFD to system simulation models easily.
